Cooling Capacity and Model Selection

For optimum comfort inside a room it is most important to select an Air Conditioner that matches with the environment of the room. For example, installing a unit too small in its capacity for a big room obviously prevents optimum room temperature control and comfort due to insufficient cool air and airflow.

Select a unit which matches the room size (floor area x ceiling height). On the other hand, required cooling capacity for a room must be considered under other various conditions such as those mentioned below. Type of loads applied to cooling

1) External heat:

a. Convection....see page of outdoor high temperature (exhaust fan gap 6 )
b. Conduction...conduction of heat from wall, ceiling and floor ( 2 3 and 4 )
c. Radiation ......heat from direct sunlight through window (1)

2) Heat generated inside a room:

a. Electric and gas appliances (7)
b. Human body (5)

Accordingly, select an A/C unit that has enough capacity by carefully checking the condition such as those listed below in addition to thè room size.

  • Environmental temperature
  • Amount of direct sunlight (size of window area)
  • Material of wall and ceiling
  • Material of wall and ceiling
  • Ventilation
  • Heat source inside the room (electric and gas appliances, number of people, etc.)
